Weekly Maths Challenge

Domino Patterns

Stage: 1 Challenge Level:1

We love playing with dominoes!
There are so many patterns you can make with the dots on them.

You could ask some questions:

  • how many are there where both ends are the same?
  • can we make lines of the ones that add up to different numbers?
  • what's the longest chain I can make where the ends of two dominoes match?

Once you've got to know all about the dominoes, make some patterns with them on the table or floor.
What ideas do you have? Send them in - you could describe them in words or take pictures and send them to us.

If you haven't got any dominoes you could print a set of your own from here

We will put a weekly maths challenge for you to try out at home as family. Stage 1 is less challenging than stage 2.

Domino Sets

Stage: 2 Challenge Level:1

When you buy a set of 0-6 dominoes they often come in cardboard boxes - and those boxes sometimes don't last very long!
What if you were given lots of dominoes in a bag?
Before you started playing it might be a good idea to find out if you have a full set!
How would you go about it?
How could you be sure?

What if someone gave you some 0-9 dominoes?
How many do you think there would be in a full set?
