Spring Term in Hardwick Class

Our theme

For this half-term, Hardwick Class will be investigating 'Myths', with the theme being explored across the curriculum.

In English, we will be accessing a range of Greek Myths, before creating own on. In History, we will be learning about Greek Gods and Goddesses, as well as the rise and fall of the Greek Empire. Our Design Technology will include Food Technology, where Hardwick Class will be preparing and tasting traditional Greek foods, in addition to learning about seasonality.

In our Art sessions with Mrs Sayers, we will be learning about British artists and recreating pieces of their artwork. We will be visiting Gainsborough's House in Sudbury, to find out more about the artist himself.

Did you know the Olympics began in Ancient Greece?

Hardwick Class will be competing in their own 'Tudor Games'! We will be learning the techniques involved in Discus, Javelin, Long Jump and Sprinting, which were the main events in the Ancient Olympic Games.

This is the book we are using in our English lessons, to access a range of different Greek Myths.

Maths

Following the White Rose Hub overview for Maths, we will spend this half-term learning how to calculate the area of 2D regular and irregular shapes, as well as learning and applying written methods for multiplication and division.

Did you know that by the end of Year 4, children are expected to know their times tables up to and including, 12 x 12? Also, in 2019, children in Year 4 will have to complete a multiplication test.

To help your child over this half-term, it would be great if time could be spent working on multiplication facts; try the following links!

Medium Term Plan - Myths

For more information on what we will be learning about this half-term, please have a look at the document attached below.

Science

In Science, Hardwick class have been learning about Sound. We have explored pitch using musical instruments and even made our own gazoos! In our final investigation, we looked into which material was the most effective for sound proofing. Most of us found that a thick, fluffy material was the best.

Spring 2

Time certainly is flying this year!

On our return, Hardwick Class will be starting their 'Banana Keyboard' topic, where we will be investigating how to use a Makey Makey Kit - alongside the Computing programme Scratch - and BANANAS to operate the programme.

Please find attached the Medium Term Plan for this half-term.
