Autumn Term 2021

We are a Year 6 Class.

Mrs Jones is our teacher and Mrs Russell and Miss Woods are our Teaching Assistants.

Our team works closely with Mrs Rowley and Mrs Mansfield to support all our Year 6 children.

Welcome to Year 6

Homework will be set regularly, using the school learning platform where possible. We ask that children in Sandringham Class read at home every day and complete book quizzes regularly. We also expect them to use their Times Tables Rock Stars log in a few times each week.  We believe that children who have a rapid recall of times tables fnd the maths work in Years 5 and 6 much eaasier as so much of the work relies on these facts.

Autumn Term  -

Oue topic title is Land of the Free.  This will allow us to study the human and physical geography of the United State of America as well as look at some important cultural ideas from the USA. We will be encouraging the children to read books by American authors and those set in the USA.

English

Our class read is Holes by Louis Sachar. Most of our English work will be based on this book, our focus will be on the more challenging vocabulary and on answering questions by refering carefully to the text.

Maths

Maths covers a range of areas, some which we review and others we are learning about for the first time. We have spent time working on place value and calculations.

Our Medium Term Plan (MTP) provides more detail about what we are learning about this Autumn Term.

PE

We have one PE session each week, which is swimming,. This is on a Thursday morning.

RE

We will be learning about Christianity, particularly the importance of the incarnation of God.

French

Across the school, we are learning about places we might visit. Our focus will be using the correct article to go with the noun, as well as being able to read and write in French as well as speak it.

Art and DT

Our work in art will be based on the portatraits by an American artist, WE will be looking at the concept of power and identity as well as considering ways in which we can repeat and reflect patterns. In DT, we will be studying the importance of symbols on totem poles in Native American culture. We will think about usingthis symbolism to represnet ourselve.
